One Part Friday, Two Parts Riches
Hey lady, Before we dive into the good stuff below, I wanted to share a quick peek at the vision I have so far for this newsletter. If you missed the first issue where I shared the Ordinary Rich Girl origin story, no worries!, you can catch up right here. As the Fridays roll by, you’ll notice this isn’t your typical lineup of updates. We’re going for more of a variety-show vibe here— segments that pop in and out like our favorite throwback TV shows. We’re keeping it flexible so we can follow whatever has us most excited that week and as the community grows, my hope is to bring in more of your voices. Nobody wants to listen to me ramble on and on. Seriously. It’s so much more fun to be in conversation with the gals. Think of this as our little collective—a place to share your own stories, insights, and finds. My dream for this space is that we use it to lift each other up towards lasting financial independence, create lives that vibe with who we are, and rewrite what “rich” really means… together. So here’s to mixing things up, sharing laughs, bringing a little more light into each other’s lives; a chat between friends, not just words on a screen. All you ever have to do to connect is hit reply. I can't wait to get to know you! Here’s to everyday riches and extraordinary friendships
Digital Sidekick: Fave tech tools, apps, tiny hacks & philosophies that free us from the screen, leverage our time and enhance real life
If you’ve ever had that moment of wondering, “Is tech quietly taking over my life…and why am I low-key anxious all the time?”—same. Enter this week’s tech sidekick: Digital Minimalism a book by Cal Newport. Now, don’t worry, this isn’t one of those “delete all your apps forever and move to a cabin in the woods” guides. Nope, Newport’s got a way more refreshing approach. The magic of Newports philosophy lies in the fact that it doesn’t guilt-trip you about screen time or insist you white-knuckle a social media detox. Instead, he encourages you to take a tech break to reconnect with the things you genuinely enjoy offline. It’s all about defining your values, setting your priorities, and reintroducing tech in a way that actually supports what matters to you. It’s not about giving up tech (come on, we love it); it’s about letting it serve a richer, fuller life rather than quietly taking over. It’s you using tech– not tech using you. For me, it was a revelation. Imagine using your phone as a tool to actually enhance your life, not nibble away at your day (crazy, I know lol) Highly recommend this one if you’re looking for a reset that feels doable and inspiring. Got your own go-to app, sneaky tip, or tech philosophy that keeps life feeling fuller and less “always on”? Hit reply and share– inquiring minds wanna know! Let’s keep building a toolkit that serves our best lives, online and off.
Off the Script: Inspiring gals burning societal scripts, in favor of writing their own.
One of the things that really riles me up, and disheartens me deeply is the ‘forever young’ agenda pushed by mainstream media. We’ve all seen it: the relentless pressure for women to chase youth, to “improve” themselves until they end up looking less like themselves, and more like… well, everyone else. It’s really easy to feel like we're falling short of these impossible beauty standards, isn’t it? I know we’ve all felt it. Being midway through my 40's I’m really feeling the weight of this youth agenda. I try to keep an eye on how I’ve internalized these narratives, and work to root them out (with varying success, let’s be real). That’s why I’m always grateful to find examples of women in the spotlight who are choosing to opt out, who love themselves just as they are, and who focus on what really makes life rich. This week’s “Off the Script” moment is brought to us by Julia Roberts, who’s giving the middle finger to the status quo. She’s embracing aging– no lifts, no fillers, no apologies. Her words hit a different kind of ‘rich’, one that values breakfast with family over the red carpet, and real life beauty over the kind that only shines under stage lights:
“I am aging with dignity, humor, and serenity...I don’t resort to lifting or Botox and I know by Hollywood standards I’m risking my career . If they don't want to give me a role because I look old, it means that I produce the project and I choose who I want. The important thing is not to take this job too seriously. I know a lot of moms who struggle to make ends meet : those are the serious problems, these are the women I admire, who are beautiful and good even when everything is hard. I honestly have other fears... I fear for my children, that I cannot protect them from anyone who wants to take advantage of them... It’s more important for me to be well and to make my family live well... I’m blessed and I appreciate everything I have ! I’m thankful for my husband and kids everyday. For this reason, for me the most important moments of the day are never the ones I spend on set, but the ones I have breakfast with because we talk about everything. It's a magical moment.” - Julia Roberts Let’s take a page from her script, and remember that true beauty and success aren’t found in perfection but in living fully, appreciating what’s right in front of us, and loving ourselves as we are. Got some inspiration to share? Maybe it’s your own little moment or something you spotted that made you go, yes! – hit reply, and let’s create a stash of stories that remind us we’re free to go rogue and craft our own script.
Freedom Snapshots: Real life snapshots of wins and wobbles, on the road to financial independence
Think of this segment as a scrapbook from our road trip to financial independence– each share is a little memento capturing the twists, detours and aha moments along the way. Wins, faceplants, and everything in between? We’re here for all of it. Today’s snapshot comes from a chat with a gal in the community, where we got real about survival mode. You know that feeling when just making it through the day feels like an accomplishment. We’ve all been there– juggling too much, running on empty, and barely keeping our heads above water. Then she said something that hit me in the gut, “Honestly, I don’t even know what I want out of life because I’m too busy just trying to survive it” We talked it out and started brainstorming what a low pressure “exit strategy” could look like– carving out even the tiniest slivers of time to make small (but smart) money moves. The kind that feel manageable but start stacking up, giving you back a bit of sanity, and the space to ask yourself what you really want to create with this one precious life. So here’s some questions for all of us in this community: If you’re in that place now, what could an exit strategy look like for you? Or, if you’ve been there and found a way out, what moves made the difference? How can we help each other make those small, but meaningful shifts? Got something to add to this convo? – a story, a tip or a win you’d like to add to the scrapbook? Hit reply and let’s capture the real, the messy, and the magical of figuring this out together.
